Types of UPVC Door Handles
It's important to choose the appropriate replacement Upvc handle for your home if your handles made of upvc require replacement. Locksmiths can provide and install high-security uPVC handles that come with additional security features.
The most important measurements are measurement A (known as PZ) and the length of the backplate (measurement F). Check Repair My Windows And Doors to ensure your new uPVC handles will fit.
Lever/Lever

A lever is a rigid bar that pivots around a central point (known as a Fulcrum). When you apply force to the end, the fulcrum will tend to turn in the direction the force is applied. This rotates the force and allows you to lift or move objects that would otherwise require more force to lift.
The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point at which you apply force determines the most effective movement. This is known as the mechanical advantage. The greater the length of the lever, the larger the mechanical advantage. You can calculate the advantage by dividing the distance from the fulcrum to the point where you are applying the force by the distance between the fulcrum and the end of the lever.
Levers can have different effects based on how the force is applied. For instance a lever of class 2 is inclined to turn in the opposite direction to when the force of effort is applied (like a totter-totter). The forces created when you push on the handle of a front door will result in rotational effects similar to those.
However, levers don't create energy. Levers increase the force by changing small amounts of effort applied over a longer distance into greater amounts of force that are applied over shorter distances. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and transport large quantities of cargo. The lever principle is also used in everyday tools like crowbars. Hammer claws, fishing rods and your own legs, when you are standing on the hand brake of your car.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles, also known as upvc door handles have levers on each side to operate the multipoint locks. These are available in a variety of finishes & variations and can be used on a wide range of materials that include UPVC doors, Aluminium doors & Timber Doors. They are sold as a pair for the outer and inner door with spindles & screws included. They are available both hand and unhandled versions to accommodate different types of users.
These can be used to replace the existing upvc door. They are typically operated by lifting the levers, which throw out all of the multipoint locks before turning the key to close and unlock. They provide a bit more security than the standard lever handles for doors, as the locking is only done from the inside using a key.
They're not as secure as a cylinder lock, but they're an affordable way to add extra security to your home. The only downside is that they do not offer the same level of protection like a cylinder lock and they don't restrict access to the home if the door is left open.
We stock a large number of lever pad upvc handles that are made by top manufacturers in the field. They will therefore be constructed with top quality components. They are also typically supplied with a manufacturer's warranty.
They usually are designed to work with the 92mm lock or a replacement version called the Paddock Lock. They will feature an 82mm cylinder centre on the inside and 62mm on the outside. They also come with two spindle followers. Some are supplied inserted in the back plate, while others are removable to enable different fixing centres.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches are by far the most simple kind of door handles. Pressing down on the lever triggers a simple latch mechanism inside the door to keep it closed, which can be locked with a key. Certain lever privacy handles work using the same principle but with the addition of an Snib (like a doorknob).
A snib can be extremely useful tool, particularly in homes where privacy and security are essential. You can use the snib button to stop your partner from entering until they are prepared. This type handle is also used for interior doors such as bedrooms, where you may require a lock to prevent access from the outside.
Snib buttons may cause problems in some cases, especially when you have locks that are old and doors that are warped. If the snib button is used accidentally or by a person who isn't quite used to it, the door can close and shut you out. You can usually get in by knocking the door frame or letterbox. But this isn't a good idea.
If your uPVC has a snib, we recommend replacing it with a smart lock from the E-LOK 7 Series. These smart locks can be retrofitted onto double turn pull handle kits. They come with coverplates that conceal existing holes to ensure an easy installation. The E-LOK uses a smart app to allow you to open the door using RFID cards or mechanical keys, and can be configured with passcodes to ensure security and convenience. The system is tested to 200k cycles to ensure durability. The handles themselves are constructed using a solid metal structure and are BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 for corrosion resistance.
Lever/Moveable Pad
This is a very popular handle style for front doors that has the benefit of preventing the door from being opened by the outside without a key if the lock is not deadlocked. This is accomplished by the 'pad'-shaped external handle that locks into the gap between the handles and lock case to prevent the latch from being pulled back or the door being opened.
This kind of handle is made for uPVC doors fitted with multipoint locks which operate via split spindle technology. This kind of operation requires the internal lever handle as well as the external pad handle to be mounted on the same lock case. This could be a straightforward switch from the current uPVC handles, but it could also involve changing the lock case or a new set of handle furniture to allow this additional function.
These aluminium lever/movable pads door handles are suitable to be used on uPVC and come with an unmaintained slide bearing. They also come with fixing lugs spring cassettes and an unstick slide bearing. They feature a euro-style cut out and are installed to a variety of uPVC and timber doors.
Lever moveable pads are available in a variety of finishes to suit many different multipoint locks. They are specifically designed to be used with split spindle locks that have the 92mm cylinder as their centre and require a separate set of split spindles that is supplied by the lock maker.
These Hoppe London 77G/3831N/113 lever moveable pad handles are made of cast aluminum with an anodised finish which is resistant to corrosion and high scratch resistance. They can be used in conjunction with many other Hoppe products including patio door handles, french door handles and window handles. They come with an escutcheon for security.
Lever/Moveable Snib
The lever handles are among the most commonly used kinds of doors handles made of upvc. They are available in various styles. It is comprised of two inline handles that can be moved and locked with a thumbturn cylinder or the use of a key. A pad handle can be used as an alternative to lever/lever handles. It is made up of a fixed or moveable pad that can be used to operate a lock. These Fullex handles feature a spring lever pad as well as a snib, which can be turned on to secure the latch.
When selecting the best replacement Upvc handle, it is important to think about the screw centres and the back plate length, and the PZ measurement. This will ensure that the handle will work with your existing locking system. You can use our online measuring guide to assist you in taking these measurements, so you're certain that the new handles will be a perfect fit.
